Labor Day seems to usher in the promise of fall and bid farewell to the lazy days of summer. It's time to get serious about steelhead and muskie. The last few weeks have been full of close calls including hookups on two big muskies that didn't end well. I celebrated Labor Day in Steve Wascher's boat on a souther tier lake. He landed a nice fish after a vicious take on a black rabbit strip fly. The day held a lot of promise but we were chased off the water by a nasty thunderstorm. Some of the year's best fishing is now right around the corner.
