Rising water temperatures over the last two weeks have really put the smallmouth on the move. This time of year the fish can be quite shallow providing great opportunity for sight fishing and top water action. This past week there were a number of fish chasing emerald shiners to the surface making the action extra exciting. Finding the right retrieve speed and cadence is the key.
With the New York musky season just days away it is time to put down the 8 weight for a while and start hauling on the 10 weight with big flies. I have high hopes for some of my local waters as fish numbers seem solid.
